Faculty & Curriculum

The school employs competent resident faculty members qualified to accomplish the mission and goals of the residential school environment. When determining acceptable qualifications of its faculty, the school gives primary consideration to the educational qualifications and also attaches great importance to competence, effectiveness, and capacity, including, related work experiences in the field, professional degrees and certifications, honors and awards, continuous documented excellence in teaching, or other demonstrated competencies and achievements that contribute to effective teaching and student learning outcomes.

PRIMARY SCHOOL (GRADE IIIrd to Vth)

The Primary School aims to inculcate foundational knowledge in various subjects in our young students. The focus is on reading and writing, language comprehension, math, critical thinking and inter-personal skills. The key subjects are English, Hindi, Mathematics, EVS, Art & Craft, Computer Science and Physical education. A third language (German, French, Spanish, Sanskrit) is added in Grade 5.

Learning reinforcement is provided through worksheets in every subject, and activity based teaching. English oratory classes and math lab are ways in which learning is strengthened through practice. Dictations and class tests are taken at regular intervals. In addition, tutorial classes are provisioned during school hours for the extra support that the kids may need.

Teaching is multi-modal and interactive, with smart boards provided in every class. Further, care is taken to attend to the special needs of every child. Children with special learning needs, have the assistance of special educators and counselors.

We emphasize on all round development of children, with multiple opportunities for play and sports, as well as participation in cultural programs. Value education is another feature of our curriculum, to instill the right values at an early age.

THE MIDDLE SECTION (GRADE VI to VIII)

The middle section aims to give a quantum jump to the knowledge assimilated in the foundation years and to further strengthen the basics of the student.

The subjects included in the curriculum in the middle section are:

  • Three languages, English and Hindi being compulsory and an addition language French.
  • Apart from the languages the other subjects are Social Science, Mathematics, Science and Computer.

We take resource to various strategies to make their stay in the school fruitful and educative.

Structured lesson plans are prepared to impart the knowledge and application in the subjects. These are supplemented with worksheets, smart boards, and activities such as experiments, dramatization, assignments, projects and a multitude of other knowledgeenhancing media.

A lot of emphasis is given to spoken English. Activities to polish their oratory skills are held and children are encouraged to think out of the box and enhance their creative abilities.

IT education and use of technology in education is updates so as to keep abreast with the latest in technology.

SENIOR SCHOOL IX-XII

The school follows the CBSE curriculum and the focus is on giving the opportunity to each child in realizing the need of self assessment & Study. The school encourage the students to explore the various possibilities to learn trough experiments, group discussions, research work & presentations.

Students Centred Curriculum is emphasized in accordance with the three ‘A’s; AGE, ABILITY and APTITUDE of the Student. The course of studies is oriented towards The Secondary School Certificate Examination (Class 10) and Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (Class 12). The school has classes from 1st onwards. The students take class X examinations at the age of 15+ and Class XII examination at the age of 17+.

The medium of instructions is English, the international language of today. Hindi, however, has a vital role on the curriculum and is taught daily in all classes. The education at GDGISN is liberal and universal but at the same time it is Indian and firmly rooted in Indian history and tradition.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical Education is an indispensable element on the continuum where listings of essential pre-requisites for personality development are drawn. The sports activities of Goenkan institution are formulated with a perspective of mass participation with an aim of health and fitness to each and every participant. Besides the aim of instilling sportsman spirit and enhancement of overall personality development, it eyes a larger goal of competitive participation beyond school – at Zonal, State, National and International levels. This purpose is served through regular coaching from grass root level, organization and participation in various inter-house and inter-school sports & games.
